Merzan would be the first to agree that an actual goodbye would have been far too painful. Even so, this does not minimize the loss he feels. He stands alone on an empty street close to the Arc de Triomphe. It’s very odd that there would not be an onslaught of tourists and others, but for some reason, Merzan is there and nobody else is nearby. Merzan is very alone. It is even more evident in his expression and in his eyes.
